Tattoos consist of thousands of particles of ink pigment suspended in the skin. While normal human growth and healing processes will remove small foreign particles from the skin and the body, tattoo pigment particles are permanent because they are too large to be removed naturally. Q-switch ND: YAG laser treatment causes the tattoo pigment particles to heat up and fragment into smaller pieces. These smaller pieces are then removed by normal body processes.

Tattoo removal is painful. It will hurt almost as much as when you got it. 

 

Tattoo removal sessions are fairly quic, making it less uncomfortable for you.

 

You can purchase and put on some 5% lidocaine cream before to help numb the area if you are nervous. Most creams must be applied 45 minutes before your session to work. 

 

Colour tattoos will take more sessions to remove than black ones .

 

Cover up tattoos usually need only 1 or 2 sessions before it is light enough for your tattoo artist to cover it up nicely. 

 

It is very difficult to know how your body will absorb the broken up tattoo particles, so session number requirements are very subjective. Having said that, most people need 8-12.
